Man oh man, do I remember the Sega Genesis. I was a kid in the 80s who grew up with the Atari 7800 as my first gaming system, followed by several iterations of Nintendo systems.
But when the Sega Genesis came out, my mind was officially blown.
Altered Beast, Golden Axe, Ecco the Dolphin, Shinobi? Oh, man these were the cat’s meow back in the day.
I hadn’t heard of the Sega Genesis Firecore System until I saw a special offer on Buy.com today. Essentially, you can get all of these old games preloaded onto the system for $25.
The system comes preloaded with 20 classic Sega Genesis games and accepts Firecore SD cartridges for playing other old games. Here’s the full list of games preloaded onto the system:
- Golden Axe
- Crack Down
- Altered Beast
- Sonic & Knuckles
- Ecco the Dolphin
- Alex the Kidd in the Enchanted Castle
- Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja
- Columns III
- Gain Ground
- Arrow Flash
- Ecco Jr.
- Flicky
- Decap Attack
- Cyber Police ESWAT City Under Siege
- Alien Storm
- Shadow Dancer
- Sonic Spinball
- Jewel Master
- Kid Chameleon
- Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine
Now, I’m not sure how much the Genesis cost when it was first released, but I think it was about $1 Million or so . . . at least that’s how I remember it as a kid. About the only time I ever got my hands on one of these killer Sega games was when I took quarters to Wal-Mart to feed the Altered Beast or Shinobi machine while my mom shopped.
So, yeah. $25 sounds like a good deal to me.
