MacGyver Challenges MacGruber on Copyright Grounds, Needs More Duct Tape

MacGruber

MacGyver creator, Lee Zlotoff, wants to put the hiatus on the new MacGruber movie, which is due out April 23.  Zlotloff’s lawyers think that the MacGruber movie infringes his copyright to the MacGyver series, even in light of the obvious fact that MacGruber is a parody.

Parodies enjoy a very strong right over the copyrighted original creations to poke fun of and engage in almost whatever demeaning commentary that is possible.  If Zlotloff and his lawyers think they can kill MacGruber, they’d better bring a lot more than just duct tape.
