ZOMM Showcases Bluetooth Wireless Technology in World’s First Wireless Mobile Phone Leash
KIRKLAND, Wash.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–The Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) today recognized the makers of ZOMMTM for its one-of-a-kind application of Bluetooth® technology in the world’s first wireless leash for mobile phones that also features call notification and personal security capabilities. Capturing a 2010 Best of Innovations Award at CES, this device has been recognized by the Bluetooth SIG as “One to Watch” because of its multiple use case scenarios, broad consumer appeal, and conventional application of wireless technology.
“Through the use of Bluetooth wireless technology, ZOMM provides an array of convenient applications for users”
ZOMM features simple functionality and convenient use case scenarios. Using Bluetooth Core Specification Version 2.1+EDR, ZOMM detects if its wirelessly connected mobile phone is a certain distance from it – if so, it alerts the owner via vibration, flashing lights and even sounds an alarm. The device also features call notification and speakerphone capabilities that allows users to answer calls directly from the device. Additionally, ZOMM contains a panic alarm that can call emergency assistance from anywhere in the world with just the push of a button.
“Through the use of Bluetooth wireless technology, ZOMM provides an array of convenient applications for users,” said Michael Foley, Ph.D., executive director of the Bluetooth SIG. “Its simple application of Bluetooth technology appeals to the masses – nobody wants to lose their mobile phone.”
“ZOMM revolutionized the Bluetooth wireless peripherals market by taking a new concept and coupling it with existing technology,” said Peter Hauser, chief technical officer of ZOMM. “ZOMM is the solution to a common problem of losing one’s mobile phone and has become a must have accessory for the many Bluetooth enabled mobile phone users around the globe.”
ZOMM is available for pre-order now at zomm.com and will be available for retail purchase this summer.

About Bluetooth® Wireless Technology
Bluetooth wireless technology is the global short-range wireless standard for personal connectivity of a broad range of electronic devices. The technology continues to evolve, building on its inherent strengths – small-form factor radio, low power, low cost, built-in security, robustness, ease-of-use, and ad hoc networking abilities. This evolution now provides manufacturers and consumers with three options for connecting wirelessly – Classic Bluetooth technology for use in a wide range of consumer electronics; Bluetooth high speed technology for the transfer of video, music and photos between phones, cameras, camcorders, PCs and TVs; and Bluetooth low energy technology for low power sensor devices and new web services within the healthcare, fitness, security, home entertainment, automotive and automation industries. More than eight new Bluetooth enabled products are qualified every working day and more than 19 million Bluetooth units are shipping per week. There are nearly three billion Bluetooth devices in the marketplace and that number climbs daily, making it the only proven wireless choice for developers, product manufacturers, and consumers worldwide.
About Bluetooth high speed Wireless Technology
Bluetooth high speed wireless technology fulfills the consumers’ need for speed while providing the same wireless Bluetooth experience – faster. Manufacturers of consumer electronics, car and home entertainment devices can now build their products to send large amounts of video, music and photos between devices wirelessly at speeds expected for such applications. Utilizing the 802.11 radio protocol provides increased throughput of data transfers at the approximate rate of 24 Mbps.
