Samsung has just announced a $150 external Blu-ray drive that supports 3D playback. The new drive is bus powered via USB so there are no clunky power cables, and it fits nicely into a slim housing for portability. While Samsung says that the SE-406A works with “all major operating systems,” it only specifies Windows 7 and Mac OS.
The SE-406 runs at a variety of speeds depending on the task at hand and media involved. Read/write speed specs are as follows: 6X BD-R, 4X BD-R Dual Layer, 24X CD-ROM, 24X CD-RW, 8X DVD±R recording, 8X DVD-RAM recording, 6X DVD+R Dual Layer recording, 6X DVD-R Dual Layer recording, 8X DVD+RW recording and 6X DVD-RW recording.
The SE-406 should start shipping in April. Check availability on Amazon.com.
