While smart phone fanatics are awaiting the new iPhone announcement this month, or drooling over Android’s latest Ice Cream Sandwich OS, there’s an underdog named Microsoft (yeah you heard right) that’s going to make a run for its money in the smart phone OS wars.
Do you get the sense that I love Infographics? But only if the data was collected and presented in an authentic way. Here we have a partnership between Mashable, AYTM (Ask Your Target Market) and PaidViewpoint, looking at data gathered from 1,000 adult responders who owned iPhones.
Take a look at the shiny infographic after the break (because it’s too big to fit here!).
Engadget reported about this uniquely designed solar charger, shaped like a bonsai tree, which retails for $370. On the surface, it seems like a great idea, but whether it is efficient (given it’s use is indoors, most indirect than direct sunlight), green (looks like it’s made of plastic), and cost effective (it’s expensive!) remains to be seen. Nonetheless, it’s a great looking design, if not the most practical.
Coincidentally, I previously bought and reviewed a solar charger from Ebay, made by a Taiwanese company, and cost $24 + shipping. Feel free to drop by the link below and check out my review of that (much more) portable unit, compared to the tree.
The tech blog, “All About Symbian” typically covers all things Nokia and the Symbian Operating System. Steve Litchfield and the gang of contributors there at “AAS” also put together very helpful posts that can apply to all smartphone users, and this is one I thought was worth sharing to our TechTilt readers. With most new smart phones having HD video capability, it’s helpful to get some expert advice on how to better capture life’s precious (do we still call them “Kodak” moments anymore?) moments on video.
The marketing research company AYTM (Ask Your Target Market- not affiliated with the game’s parent company, Rovio), put out some statistics into the form of an infographic (who came up with that term “infographic” anyways…?). You’ll see a variety of usage statistics, devices used, and behaviors regarding the Angry Birds game. Oh, and the possible cures for this addiction.
J.D. Power, you’ve heard of them, right? The folks who hand out trophies for auto makers? Well, as it turns out, they also do research about customer satisfaction regarding mobile phones as well (lucky us). The phone makers who got the top marks should not surprise you, but the companies near the bottom of the list might. I’ve included both charts (if you’re a true geek, you will actually read them and stay awake), as well as the full text of J.D. Power’s Press Release.
The rumors just keep getting better for the Spring iPhone, which is supposedly coming next month. In the latest batch of rumors, it’s looking like Sprint will continue is unlimited data plans (and hopefully no more price increases). [click to continue…]
Nokia is currently running a crowdsourcing campaign for fresh remakes of their classic ringtone (you know the one..). The winning tune will be included with the standard set of ringtones that come with a selection of 2012 Nokia phones. Looks like the grand prize will be $10,000 USD, with five runner up prizes of $1,000USD each. Not bad.
Check out the current entries, along with a cute video, after the break.
Just ran across some amusing Korean Android Commercials, and thought they should be shared. The last one is my personal favorite. Check out 3 more videos after the break:
You can download the app from the Android Market, a launcher/organizer made by the folks at Samsung. Good to see hardware makers also be involved in the software side. I assume the app works on other makes, not just Samsung phones, but check the app market to be sure. Looks like a very straightforward, easy to use utility for organizing the apps on your Android phone.
