Adobe showed off some of its new bag of tricks with how its Flash products now play nice with Apple’s iOS at NAB last week.  The wiz kids at Adobe have figured out a way to use its Flash Media Server to stream live video to the Apple iPad 2 (and other iOS devices) by converting the video to HTML5 on the fly.

Check out the introduction to the tech from Adobe’s sneak peek at NAB in the video below. [click to continue…]

Apple Unveils iPad2

by Joe on March 3, 2011

Apple has unveiled iPad 2 and with some pretty substantial updates.  The iPad 2 is slightly smaller and lighter; sports a new Apple A5 1GHz dual-core chip; two cameras with FaceTime video calling; iOS 4.3, a slick new thin, magnetic Smart Cover; new apps like iMovie and Garage Band, keeps all the loved features from the first generation and is available in black and white.

Version 1.1.1 of Comcast’s xfinity iPad app just dropped and the quick App update enables instant streaming over WiFi.  I just gave it a go and, while the selection is not as big as Nexflix’s offerings, there’s a lot to watch on it – particularly for those who subscribe to premium channels.  There’s a ton of stuff from HBO and Showtime available.

The streams I tried out (Top Gear and Cop Out) looked great.  It’s nice to get something for nothing extra.  Two kudos for Comcast.

At CES, Lenovo has introduced a slick little dual mode netbook / tablet combination dubbed the LePad Slate.  Switch between Window 7 and Android 2.2operating systems using the functionality of a laptop and the portability of a tablet when on the go.

The U1 version sports the Intel CULV processor and when in tablet mode a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor runs the show with seamless on the fly switching from tablet to CPU.  Pricing for the Lepad Slate begins at $520 and with the U1 base a $1,300 price tag is set.  More in the press release after the break. Today at CES, Toshiba has dropped into the tablet race with an Android Powered machine.  Tablet as Toshiba is calling it, is a 10.1 inch device with a 16:10 aspect ratio display.  Powered by the dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor with integrated NVIDIA graphics, Tablet should deliver solid performance in web browsing, watching HD movies and general multitasking.

Tablet features front and rear facing cameras, a built-in GPS and compass and an array of ports including a full-size HDMI, full-size USB, mini USB and a full-size SD card slot.  Bluetooth and 802.11n WiFi will be on board for keeping connected.

The price is not mentioned, but will hit the street in the first half of 2011.  Hit the jump for the press release. [click to continue…]

Apple Prepping 3 iPad Versions for 2011

by Eric on December 29, 2010

Looks like AT&T’s grip on Apple customers will lessen even more in 2011.  First, an almost certain Verizon iPhone is expected next month, and now we’re getting word of 3 iPad variants to be released in 2011 – one Wi-Fi only and one each of a UTMS and CDMA version.  Of course, Verizon uses CDMA for its cell service, which helps draw the logical correlation between this info provided by “industry sources.”

Samsung Galaxy Tab Reviews

by Eric on November 9, 2010

The Samsung Galaxy Tab is an Android-powered tablet that features a 7-inch touch screen display, a 1GHz processor and 512MB of RAM, along with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0 and 3G connectivity.  While Steve Jobs has dismissed the 7-inch Android tablet genre as a fad, there is a lot of buzz surrounding the Samsung Galaxy Tab as the first bit Android-powered tablet, which is headed to all major cell carriers.  Check availability on Amazon.com.

The first batch of reviews for the Galaxy Tab are out.  I’ve collated several reviews below and will attempt to update this list as additional, relevant reviews roll in. [click to continue…]
