NVIDIA has already announced the first quad-core mobile processor, the Tegra 3 ARM Cortex A9 CPU.  Four performance processors reportedly preform at record pace and an ingenious “fifth core” companion works at incredibly low power for low performance tasks like listening to music, video play-back and background data updates.  The ASUS Eee Pad Transformer Prime is the first announced quad-core tablet to market and having the Tegra 3 on board promises PC like performance and insane battery life. New Kindle Models Introduced by Amazon

by Jay GotPassport on September 28, 2011

Big news from Amazon earlier today, regarding the release of 3 new Kindles.  The lineup will begin at $79 with a basic Kindle, up to the new “Kindle Fire,” color touch screen running Android, for $199.  Any mention of “Special offers are fairly non-intrusive screen savers that provide yes, special offers on Amazon.  They are not pop up ads, and generally do not intrude upon the reading experience.

A summary about each model, with pre-order links, after the break:

Engadget reported about this uniquely designed solar charger, shaped like a bonsai tree, which retails for $370.  On the surface, it seems like a great idea, but whether it is efficient (given it’s use is indoors, most indirect than direct sunlight), green (looks like it’s made of plastic), and cost effective (it’s expensive!) remains to be seen.  Nonetheless, it’s a great looking design, if not the most practical.

Coincidentally, I previously bought and reviewed a solar charger from Ebay, made by a Taiwanese company, and cost $24 + shipping.  Feel free to drop by the link below and check out my review of that (much more) portable unit, compared to the tree.

Cool Video of the Day: ASUS EeePad Transformer Slider

by Jay GotPassport on September 1, 2011

Check out the promotional video by ASUS, maker of the Eeepad transformer (which came with the optional keyboard dock), now coming out with the EeePad Transformer Slider, which has a built-in keyboard.  The form factor is similar to that of a slider qwerty phone, in tablet size.

What do you think of this design?  Other than bluetooth keyboard makers, I’m guessing users will like this no compromise tablet design.

So, were you one of the lucky souls who bought a $99 HP TouchPad during their company fire sale?   Are you a bit apprehensive in acquiring a device which is essentially being dropped by HP?  Don’t fret, you didn’t just buy a fancy $99 digital photo frame, as I’ve gathered some resources for you and your spanking new WebOS device.  See more after the break.

Kindle Cloud Reader now Available at Amazon.com

by Jay GotPassport on August 10, 2011

In addition to reading Kindle books on a Kindle (that statement was genius..), there are the Kindle apps for iPhone, Android, and pcs/macs.  Now there’s a cloud based reading app that is integrated into your browser (Safari, Safari for iPad, and Chrome; I/E and Firefox to be released soon).  Other than PDFs, purchased books will not reside on your local hard disk, but in the CLOUDS (insert heavenly music here).  Check out some screen shots after the break:

Sony has finally jumped into the external hard drive world to expand their home entertainment storage options with the HD-PG5 series 500GB external hard drive.  The drive is USB 3.0 compatible and comes loaded with data transfer software.  The great thing about this new hard drive from Sony is the ability to direct connect to BRAVIA to record HD programming and direct copy from Handycam camcorders.  The HD-PG5 series will also work on your Playstation 3 or PC and is BUS powered so no AC adapter is needed.  Sony also includes a security suite and backup manager.

The HD-PG5 series is available available in the UK, Germany and France.  There is no word yet on US availability, but I imagine it won’t take too long.  Hit the jump for more in the press release. [click to continue…]

Intel isn’t providing too many new details of the “Cloverview” tablet-geared chip other than a rumor of a manufacturing release in April of 2012.  Initial details provided back in April touted a 32nm architecture and low power consumption based on the Atom.  According to reports, Intel intends to roll out the Clover Trail platform in time for a Windows 8 release.  A beta Windows 8 is thought to be among us in September.  At this point no one knows for sure the official launch of Windows 8, but could CES 2012 see a big to do… Time will tell.
