The RED EPIC and Scarlet have been “on the radar” for about 2 years now. And even though we have no real clue as to when either camera will hit the market, the big RED One has proved good reason to pay attention to what RED is doing.
When a short video of the RED EPIC working the AF on a Canon 85mm f/1.2L lens surfaced on REDUser.net forums the other day, the chatter about these two monster cameras picked right back up. The reason that the Scarlet was in the mix, was because it was the one doing the actual shooting of the EPIC’s AF operation.
It’s nice to see both cameras working their stuff. Stay tuned for the latest on the Scarlet and EPIC.

I hadn’t used the EOS-E1 plugin for Canon H.264 movie files from the 1D Mark IV, 7D and 5D Mark II until today. When I tried to log and transfer the files from a folder on my desktop, I was getting an error message that stated that my file:
“contains unsupported media or has an invalid directory structure. Please choose a folder whose directory structure matches supported media.”
This is where getting ahead of myself burned me. The folder structure from your CF card has to be the default Canon structure – including the blank “MISC” folder. So, if you are accustomed to transferring your footage to a drive on your computer or an external media drive, then this can be problematic. [click to continue…]

The Canon VIXIA HF M32 camcorder is the latest edition in Canon’s consumer camcorder lineup. The HF M32 is a 1920 x 1080 resolution camcorder that captures 24Mbps 60i/24p/30p footage and features 64GB of internal flash memory. Memory can be expanded with SD cards, including the new SDXC format, which currently offers 64GB capacities, but the SDXC has a specification limit of 2TB. The HF M32 also features a 15x zoom lens and optical image stabilization.
The HF M32 should be available in September 2010 at an initial retail price of $1000. Check availability on Amazon.com and B&H Photo/Video.
