NVIDIA has already announced the first quad-core mobile processor, the Tegra 3 ARM Cortex A9 CPU. Four performance processors reportedly preform at record pace and an ingenious “fifth core” companion works at incredibly low power for low performance tasks like listening to music, video play-back and background data updates. Steve Ballmer, Microsoft CEO, is on the hook to deliver the preshow keynote address to kick off the International CES 2012. Ballmer’s address is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., Monday, January 9, in the Venetian. In the past Microsoft has unveiled major products on this stage such as the Xbox.

Intel isn’t providing too many new details of the “Cloverview” tablet-geared chip other than a rumor of a manufacturing release in April of 2012. Initial details provided back in April touted a 32nm architecture and low power consumption based on the Atom. According to reports, Intel intends to roll out the Clover Trail platform in time for a Windows 8 release. A beta Windows 8 is thought to be among us in September. At this point no one knows for sure the official launch of Windows 8, but could CES 2012 see a big to do… Time will tell.
