If you need a way to connect a MacBook Pro to an HDTV via HDMI, Moshi has an adapter that will do just that. The Moshi Mini Display to HDMI adapter supports 1080p video and multi-channel digital audio for the DisplayPort-based MacBook, MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, iMac, Mac mini or Mac Pro.

When thinking about making the purchase for a HDMI adapter, I thought back to CES 2010 and the Moshi booth I stumbled upon with all the wonderful adapters and accessories geared toward Apple products. I decided to buy the Moshi adapter for my own MacBook and give it a go along with an inexpensive HDMI cable to tote along wherever I go. To date the adapter has performed flawlessly and is compact enough to run accessories in adjacent ports with no interference.

Moshi introduced this adapter in mid-2010 to complement the newest DisplayPort Macs and is HDMI v1.3 compliant, so it will work with most any HDMI TV on the market. Couple this adapter with a Bluetooth keyboard and make work or play a much more comfy proposition while kicking back on the sofa or favorite recliner. Throw in a BookArc and you’ve got the perfect lazy man’s office setup.

The Moshi HDMI adapter is constructed of seemingly quality components including an aluminum housing to minimize electromagnetic interference and closely matches the MacBook body While I get a sense of an Apple product, I still feel that it falls just behind what Apple might produce. With Moshi requiring a premium price, on average two to three times more than other adapters, a bit more attention to detail would put this adapter over the top. That said, the Moshi Mini Display to HDMI adapter is a complement to the MacBook allowing that HDTV you already have to serve as the second monitor or monster primary display.

I recommend purchasing the Moshi Mini Display to HDMI adapter from Tech Tilt’s trusted online retail partners, B&H Photo/Video and Amazon.

The Panasonic TC-P42U2 is not packed with features, but does boast a 2,000,000:1 native contrast ratio and 600Hz sub-field drive. For comparison B&H Photo/Video offers it for $529.95 and Amazon has is for $599.98 at time of this post. Needless to say, that is a great deal. Typically, a decent 32″ will cost more that $300.

The Nokia N8 may be the coolest smartphone since the iPhone. Forget about web surfing and email. The N8 does much more. I am talking about a built-in camera with a 12MP sensor and Carl Zeiss optics, the ability to produce HD quality video and edit it, and Ovi Maps walk and drive navigation. Yes, it’ll do Facebook and Twitter too.

Picture and video buffs carrying the Nokia N8 won’t have to worry about being caught without a camera since the N8 brings such powerful still and video capabilities. An included editing suite means a computer is thing of the past and a Xenon flash ensures darkness won’t be an issue. Oh, did I mention the 12MP sensor and HD video capture ability.

The N8 also doubles as a portable HDTV and with Web TV content from CNN, E!, Paramount, National Geographic and local content from the Ovi Store. Not only watch HD content, but hear it in full 5.1 surround sound by connecting the N8 to a 5.1 home theater system via HDMI. Thanks to a collaboration with Dolby the Nokia N8 is the first smart-phone to incorporate Dolby® Digital Plus 5.1 surround sound technology.

The N8 is powered the fully open source Symbian^3 (S^3) platform. The S^3 platform offers major advances like multiple, personalized home screens, single tap and multi-touch gesture support, efficient memory management and fast multi-tasking. To learn more about Symbian visit www.symbian.org

Also, check out the sample video shot in 720p with the Nokia N8, which was made available by Nokia after the N8′s launch.

Nokia N8 Press Release

Nokia N8. Connect. Create. Entertain.

April 27, 2010

Espoo, Finland – The Nokia N8, Nokia’s latest smartphone, intuitively connects to the people, places and services that matter most. With the Nokia N8, people can create compelling content, connect to their favorite social networks and enjoy on-demand Web TV programs and Ovi Store apps. Available in select markets during the third quarter of 2010, the estimated retail price of the Nokia N8 is EUR 370, before applicable taxes or subsidies.

The Nokia N8 introduces a 12 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics, Xenon flash and a large sensor that rivals those found in compact digital cameras. Additionally, the Nokia N8 offers the ability to make HD-quality videos and edit them with an intuitive built-in editing suite. Doubling as a portable entertainment center, people can enjoy HD-quality video with Dolby Digital Plus surround sound by plugging into their home theatre system. The Nokia N8 enables access to Web TV services that deliver programs, news and entertainment from channels like CNN, E! Entertainment, Paramount and National Geographic. Additional local Web TV content is also available from the Ovi Store.

Social networking is second nature to the Nokia N8. People can update their status, share location and photos, and view live feeds from Facebook and Twitter in a single app directly on the home screen. Calendar events from social networks can also be transferred to the device calendar.

The Nokia N8 comes with free global Ovi Maps walk and drive navigation, guiding people to places and points of interest in more than 70 countries worldwide.

Symbian^3 in action

Powering the Nokia N8 is Symbian ^3, the latest edition of the world’s most used smartphone software, which introduces several major advances, including support for gestures such as multi touch, flick scrolling and pinch-zoom. The Nokia N8 also offers multiple, personalizable homescreens which can be loaded with apps and widgets. The new 2D and 3D graphics architecture in the platform takes full advantage of the Nokia N8′s hardware acceleration to deliver a faster and more responsive user interface. Symbian^3 also raises the bar in performance by delivering greater memory management allowing more applications to run in parallel for a faster multi-tasking experience.

Getting Qt for Developers

The Nokia N8 is Nokia’s first device to be integrated with Qt, a software development environment that simplifies the development and makes it possible to build applications once and deploy across Symbian and other software platforms. Nokia has also made the powerful and simple to use Nokia Qt SDK available, in its initial beta, to enable developers to start realizing the potential of Qt.

The HT-CT150 offers 340 watts of total system power (85 watts x 3 channels + 85 watts sub) and mirror the design of Sony’s 2010 32-inch BRAVIA HDTVs. The HT-CT350 has 400 watts of total system power (100 watts x 3 channels + 100 watts subwoofer) and is also designed to match Sony’s 2010 BRAVIA televisions.

Sony also introduced the new 5.1 channel HT-SF470 1000 watt (157W x 5 + 167W sub) home theater system.
