Sony Puts Its Foot Down On Portable Gaming

by Eric on January 27, 2011

Sony dropped a couple of big bombs today on the portable gaming world.  First, the long-awaited PSP2 (apparently, dubbed the NGP) was announced with a whopping 5-inch OLED touchscreen, dual analog sticks, front and rear cameras, and a touch panel on the back of the unit.

The NGP’s display sports a 960×544 resolution, which roasts the aging PSP’s 480×272 4.3-inch display.  Additionally, the NGP features 3G, WiFi and GPS connectivity, along with accelerometer and gyroscrop motion sensing akin to the PlayStation Move.  It’s also not going to use the PSP’s UMD media format, but Sony isn’t entirely clear just yet on what format you’ll be using to plug in games.  The NGP won’t be available until the end of 2011, just in time for holiday shoppers.

The second big bomb is that the PlayStation Suite is coming to Android phones (Android 2.3 minimum req’d) this year, which will include support for emulated PSOne games in addition to newly developed titles designed specifically for the platform.

Cyber Monday LCD TV Deals

by Eric on November 29, 2010

Looking for an HDTV deal on Cyber Monday?

First, I would check the Cyber Monday Lightning Deals Page to see if you get lucky on one of the deals rolling out.  If you aren’t familiar with Amazon’s Lightning Deals, you’ll see regularly updated and expiring deals that are usually well below everyday prices and are only available in limited quantities, which means they sell out rather quickly on the good deals.

UPDATED:  Amazon’s Cyber Monday Gold Box Deal is a Vizio 47″ 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV for $599.99 while it lasts.

If you miss out on the Lightning Deals or you just don’t see the right deal, then consider the following Cyber Monday TV deals from Amazon and B&H Photo/Video. [click to continue…]

Sony has announced a firmware update for the NEX-VG10 camcorder that adds autofocus for Sony A-Mount SAM and SSM lenses.  The NEX-VG10 can accept Sony’s DSLR A-Mount lenses courtesy of the LA-EA1 adapter, which has previously required manual focus operation only.  However, this new firmware update will allow autofocus communication through the adapter.

The firmware update is available via Sony UK’s website.
