Netflix Watch Instantly

In an official blog post today, Michael Spiegelman, Director of Product Management at Netflix said they were fixing some of the scrolling jitters in the horizontal scrolling functionality and that they’ll be bringing back sortable lists.

That’s one step in the right direction; however, I miss the old version of the website that worked like, you know, a website.  This set-top box design has no place in my browser.

While I’m at it, can we get the ability to create and manage our own lists back? That was a lame move taking those away Netflix.

Netflix Inks 2-Year Streaming Deal With CBS

by Eric on February 22, 2011

Netflix and CBS just announced a two-year licensing deal for CBS’s library content to be made available on Netflix’s Instant Streaming.  The CBS titles will be added in April and include episodes of ”Medium” and “Flashpoint” as well as full seasons of classics such as “Frasier,” and “Cheers.”

Episodes from the original “Hawaii Five-0″ are included in the package, as are episodes from all generations of the definitive sci-fi series, “Star Trek,” and the cult favorite, “Twin Peaks.”  Installments of ’60s classics, “The Twilight Zone” and “The Andy Griffith Show,” will be available as well.

Version 1.1.1 of Comcast’s xfinity iPad app just dropped and the quick App update enables instant streaming over WiFi.  I just gave it a go and, while the selection is not as big as Nexflix’s offerings, there’s a lot to watch on it – particularly for those who subscribe to premium channels.  There’s a ton of stuff from HBO and Showtime available.

The streams I tried out (Top Gear and Cop Out) looked great.  It’s nice to get something for nothing extra.  Two kudos for Comcast.

Netflix for Android, Some Reassurance

by Eric on September 28, 2010

Oh, sure there have been hints and murmurs for a while, but it’s good to know that Netflix is looking for more people to make it happen – like, now.

This job posting appeared on Netflix’s job board here.

A tipster supposedly revealed to Engadget that the next Apple TV will closely resemble the next iPhone hardware, minus the screen.  The new Apple TV will deliver content via a cloud-based storage solution, with the option to go local using Apple’s Time Capsule.  No word on whether Apps or the App Store will be available, but it seems like a nature fit.

If the $99 price point is to be believed, this could be a truly killer piece of hardware.  Although, given Apple’s control-freak mentality, there’s probably some scary subscription plans for cloud storage built in somewhere.

No word on when official announcement will come though.  With Google TV in the mix though, you can bet that Apple won’t be too far behind.

Netflix Streaming Coming to iPhone…

by Eric on April 4, 2010

Netflix iPhone

According to Steve Swasey, VP of Corporate Communications at Netflix, this looks to be a real possibility.  When Netlix dropped the instant streaming for iPad bomb last week, they were bombarded with demands for an iPhone and iPod Touch app that does the same.  Swasey chimed in on the official Netflix blog in response to the questions stating:

For those of you asking whether Netflix will be on the iPhone and iPod Touch: We wouldn’t invite you to dinner without planning to serve dessert. In other words, we’re working on it so stay tuned.

Sweet.

Netflix Instant Streaming for iPad

by Eric on April 2, 2010

Netflix iPad

I had been somewhat underwhelmed by the iPad after it was finally revealed.  However, after Netfilx just launched a free app for the iPad that allows you to stream movies and TV shows for no additional tax on your Netflix account . . . well, I think the iPad just found its niche in my home.

Mind = officially blown.
