Apple Tablet and Verizon Rumor

by Joe on January 21, 2010

As most everyone knows Apple is set to make a big announcement next Wednesday, January 27th at 10:00 AM in the  Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Theater in San Francisco.  Presumably, the event is going to be held for Apple to unveil a new tablet device yet to be determined by speculators.

Mashable has reported through a source (Northeast Securities analyst Ashok Kumar), that the new device will sport a Qualcomm processor and will be available through Apple at full price, which should be around $800 and Verizon at a subsidized price with a service plan.

According to Engadget not only a tablet could be big news, but a new iLife and iPhone OS 4 could make quite a splash.  It would seem logical to show off some new tools and kick out a new iPhone OS.

According to Gizmodo an Apple insider claims the above Flickr image to be the closest rendering to the real thing to date.

Could we also see the presence of a Qualcomm powered iPhone slated for Verizon?  We’ll find out next week and all the madness will be over.

Luke Wilson ATT

After its losing efforts at a preliminary injunction, AT&T has decided to drop the lawsuit against Verizon.  Who knows?  Maybe AT&T saw the writing on the wall, or simply realized that the truth really does hurt a little.

Regardless, both companies are pressing forward with commercials attacking the other’s services.  While AT&T has brought in Luke Wilson to help clean up its 3G image by claiming that AT&T is really a better service, Verizon is still using AT&T’s 3G coverage map as the star of the show.

It just seems like AT&T can’t catch a break though.  Consumer Reports just released its findings on customer satisfaction for cell phone services.  The survey covers 26 U.S. cities and in 19 of those, AT&T was dead last – with Verizon taking the top spot in the same locales.

Yeah.  The truth hurts.

AT&T Strikes Back . . . Again

by Eric on November 20, 2009

Luke Wilson ATT

AT&T lost its preliminary injunction.  The judge said that just because the ads might be misunderstood “doesn’t mean they’re misleading.”

As if a silly law suit wasn’t enough, AT&T has tried to trump Verizon by telling us that its service is better.   AT&T even brought in Luke Wilson to try to convince us.

AT&T even set up a silly new website, which carries a tagline: “When you compare, there’s no comparison. AT&T. A better 3G experience.” – truthabout3G.com

ATT Truth About 3G

Sure.

There's a Map for That

AT&T recently sued Verizon over Verizon’s cheeky “There’s a Map for That” commercials, like the one below:

AT&T’s lawsuit claims that Verizon is misleading consumers with the competing 3G and is crying foul over the lack of display for AT&T’s EDGE coverage, which is nowhere near as fast as 3G.  If you watch the above commercials with this dispute in mind, you can see that Verizon clearly labels the maps as “3G Coverage” maps.  AT&T doesn’t think that’s enough though.
