Sanyo VPC-PD2BK Pocket-Size Camcorder

The Sanyo VPC-PD2BK is a pocket-size camcorder that can capture 1080p video and 10MP photos.  The new camcorder features a 3x optical zoom, stereo sound recording and offers an SDXC slot for 64GB memory cards (also compatible with SD and SDHC cards).  The VPC-PD2BK should be available in September 2010 at an initial retail price of $169.99.  Check availability on Amazon.com.

PluralEyes 1.2.6 Beta

PluralEyes (the magic audio-sync software) ver. 1.2.6 beta includes a number of new updates and will install alongside version 1.1.  The new version 1.2.6 beta includes the following updates and improvements:

  • Automatically creates merged master clips in the browser, a great starting point for the creative editing process.
  • Choose the project and sequence to sync from a dropdown list; the magic sequence name pluraleyes is no longer required.
  • Option for a single output sequence, to better organize long series of clips.
  • Replace audio option—great for DSLR video with external audio.
  • Support for locked tracks, to keep specific clips in place through the sync.
  • Message-specific help system that provides in-depth information on each status message as they occur.
  • Improved multiclip handling for subclips and in/out points.
  • Several under-the-hood refinements and bug fixes.

DualEyes Beta Update Available

Singular Software released an update for DualEyes beta, a standalone audio syncing program that will work with any non-linear editor.

It’s currently in a free, open beta for Windows only.  A Mac version is planned for later though.

Panasonic HM-TA1 Pocket Video Camera

The Panasonic HM-TA1 is a pocket-sized video camera that is capable of shooting 1080p HD video in MP4 format, and is looking to take a bite out of the Flip camera‘s market.  It can also capture 8MP still images.  The TA1 records to SD memory cards and is compatible with the new SDXC format.

The Panasonic HM-TA1 should be available in  purple, gray and red in August 2010 at an initial retail price of $169.95. Check availability on Amazon.com.

Singular Software has made available the Beta 4 version of its PluralEyes audio syncing software for Adobe Premiere Pro.  If you are using an earlier beta version, you should be notified automatically.  The latest beta release is available for download on Singular Software’s website.

I hadn’t used the EOS-E1 plugin for Canon H.264 movie files from the 1D Mark IV, 7D and 5D Mark II until today.  When I tried to log and transfer the files from a folder on my desktop, I was getting an error message that stated that my file:

“contains unsupported media or has an invalid directory structure. Please choose a folder whose directory structure matches supported media.”

This is where getting ahead of myself burned me.  The folder structure from your CF card has to be the default Canon structure – including the blank “MISC” folder.  So, if you are accustomed to transferring your footage to a drive on your computer or an external media drive, then this can be problematic.
